Walk to Defeat ALS
|
Come out and support the fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis by participating in the upcoming Walk to Defeat ALS, held by the ALS Association Springfield Chapter. Scheduled to take place on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Jordan Valley Park, the one-mile walk is arranged each year to bring awareness to ALS and raise money for a cure. A motor neuron disease, ALS affects over 30,000 Americans and first received national attention in 1939 when legendary baseball player Lou Gehrig was diagnosed with the disease. By holding national walks in an effort to collect funds for the disease, the ALS Association continues to make strides toward its termination in hopes of a brighter future for those affected by its existence.
